A New Application for iPhone & iPad, brought to you by Gogal Publishing and WildTroutStreams.com
Recently we were approached by the folks at Gogal Publishing to help them build a new generation fishing app: something that would tell you where to find wild trout, and do it on your phone. The result is “CO Wild Trout”, a guide to more than 1,300 fishing locations in the State of Colorado, with unprecedented detail about native trout, including information about abundance, habitat quality, and genetic purity for most conservation populations.
We’ve never charged for information about wild trout on this website, and we never will, but the prospect of making a little money from this app allowed us to spend the time to integrate all of the different sources of data into one, easy-to-use and powerful package. In addition to native trout, you’ll find hundreds of additional spots where you can find wild trout, as well as lakes and public access points, land ownership, and forest fire history. You can view this data on a variety of basemaps, including USGS topo maps, and use your phone in the field as a wilderness GPS (even where there’s no cell phone signal). It’s quite a package, and a steal for the intro price of $9.99.
All of our proceeds will be re-invested in this site. If you like what you see here, and fish in Colorado, this is a great way to support our work. To really understand the depth of information in this product, check out our new web-map of Colorado. Most of the information is the same in both implementations, though the App is optimized for working on an iPhone, and the webpage basically doesn’t work well with a touch screen, and doesn’t play well on a small screen. Still, you can use the web map to plan your trip, and the iPhone app in the field.
