In its 2005 Coldwater Fisheries Management Plan, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife (“NJDFW”) published a series of maps indicating the type of fishery (Brook, Brown, or Rainbow) for Trout Production water. We coded this information in a vector GIS file and have made it availabe online.
This dataset (which shows named streams only) color codes a “fishery” attribute as follows:
- Brook Trout (the Native Fish of NJ) as blue
- Brook Trout with Non-native trout (e.g. Brown or Rainbows) as purple
- Non-native trout only (red)
You can hover your cursor over a hot spot on each stream to get information about its water quality classification and the specific non-native trout that might be found there. Note that if you use the web map with a touch screen device, you won’t be able to see the tool tip.
